One of the Daily Mail’s columnists, Richard Kay, says Matthews, 40, got down on one knee while they were visiting the picturesque Lake District and proposed to Middleton.

And the newly-engaged couple confirmed the happy news to the Associated Press, revealing they will tie the knot in 2017.

The news publication also reports that sister Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge and husband Prince William are “thrilled by the news” as, of course, are her parents Carole and Michael Middleton. Middleton has certainly witnessed some romantic ups and downs since the royal wedding in 2011.

The engagement ring is a decadent vintage jewel that featured a halo of diamonds around a central diamond.

“She would want her sister by her side, as who else would she trust to make things go well?” So, does this mean Middleton’s wedding will include some royal treatment since she’s related to the Duchess?

The happy couple started dating in 2012 before splitting up.
