Duffy leads Royals past Sale, White Sox 4

Except instead of pin-up girls Tuesday Weld or Ann-Margret giving chase, it has recently been the starter-needy Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Toronto Blue Jays and Houston Astros. He gave us plenty of opportunities to score and it didn’t happen.

The White Sox entered the second half of the season with an important four-game series at home against the Kansas City Royals, and they stumbled out of the gates. They also took out a team showing some spark after struggling most of the way.

The first four Kansas City batters each got hits, and three scored in a three-run inning that included two doubles and five hits.

“The home run’s nice, especially the first one, but at the end of the day, if we don’t win, that’s all that matters”, he said. “If we get some more offense in the bottom of the order, it’d be key”.

The Royals finished with 17 hits, including five doubles. 490 with 12 extra-base hits and eight multi-hit games over his past 13 contests.

Closer David Robertson was the only reliever who wasn’t used and left-hander Dan Jennings, who gave up the home run to Cain, pitched a career-high 3 2/3 innings.

Young felt his back tightening with each inning and left the game after throwing 82 pitches.

Royals manager Ned Yost said of Sale: “He’s a strike thrower with tremendous stuff and we’re an aggressive team”. And Young expects to make his next scheduled start.

“We obviously have some decisions there and it’s hard”, Ventura had said before the game.

Phil Rogers wants the White Sox to stay the course, or better yet follow the KC Royals model from 2014.

White Sox ninth. G.Holland pitching. Shuck forced the runner and Tyler Saladino grounded out to end the game.

Jose Quintana surrendered four earned runs in 5 1/3 innings Saturday as the White Sox fell to the Royals. There were games thrown by the White Sox; there was anger among the players because the gamblers were not handing over their agreed payoffs; that anger fired the White Sox briefly into playing instead of faking. It’s just tough to lose because you could see in everybody’s face how bad they wanted that game.

It was the first of three straight innings in which Chicago scored a run with two out and then stranded two runners. The Royals instead settled for a different kind of first, as Joe Blanton came in and retired the Sox in order (including strikeouts of Abreu and Cabrera) for his first save. Lorenzo Cain led the way with a 3-5 day that included a double and two walks in addition to the game winning homer in the 13th that smashed the opposition’s hopes and dreams to smithereens.

On the offensive side of things, Paulo Orlando and Lorenzo Cain were both able to hit it out of the yard for their team.

NOTES: The White Sox capped their 10-year reunion weekend for the 2005 World Series championship team with a pregame ceremony that lasted about 30 minutes.

It was the second scoreless outing in three starts for the 30-year-old left-hander, who has struggled since undergoing shoulder surgery in 2012. As it stands right now, the Royals are the best team in the American League, but they can not lose themselves with these upcoming series’ against Pittsburgh and Houston.
