Duffy’s expected departure was confirmed on Friday following the announcement the Republic of Ireland defender had signed a four-year deal at Sky Bet Championship rivals Brighton.

The Republic of Ireland centre half signs from Blackburn Rovers on a three year deal. He scored two own goals and was sent off in a recent loss to Cardiff City, but did end his Blackburn career with a goal (in the right end) against Crewe Alexandra in the EFL Cup. He also put through his net in his previous game against Wigan.

Duffy bounced back by scoring an extra-time victor for Rovers in Tuesday’s EFL Cup win over Crewe in what has proved to be his farewell appearance.

Both players could make their debuts this weekend, with Blackburn saying on their website: “Both players have been signed in time to be eligible for tomorrow’s league match against Fulham”.

He switched his global allegiance from Northern Ireland in 2010 after appearing at every age level up to Under-21 for the Green and White Army.
