Duffy takes no-hitter into eighth, strikes out 16 in Royals win
The Rays (42-62) saw their four-game winning streak come to an end, hours after dealing away three players prior to Monday’s non-waiver trade deadline.

“It was a disappointing, frustrating, emotional day”, Archer said.
Duffy carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning when left fielder Jennings hit a double into left field for the Rays’ only hit of the game.
Kendrys Morales’ 18th home run, a towering shot over the center field wall off Rays starter Chris Archer (5-15), got the Royals on the scoreboard in the seventh.
Unfortunately, a performance in which Archer allowed three runs on only six hits (solo homer) and a walk over 7 1/3 innings came on a night when Danny Duffy had no-hit stuff, handing Chris his major league leading 15th loss of the season.
Duffy struck out a career-high 14 and allowed his only baserunner when Logan Forsythe walked on a 3-2 pitch leading off the fourth Monday night.
“Duffy had everything going, obviously”, Rays manager Kevin Cash said. “From the side you could definitely see why”.
Zach Greinke had set the Royals’ single-game strikeout record at 15 on August 25, 2009.
Tampa Bay has now lost all four meetings with Kansas City this season, 11 of their last 12 dating back to last July, 16-of-20 since the start of 2013 and 24-of-30 dating back to the start of the 2012 season.
“It’s an honor to have a game like those guys had”, the 27-year-old Duffy said, “but I understand they had a lot more of those than I did”.

“There’s been a number of occasions when Danny’s stepped on the mound and I said this might be the night”, Royals manager Ned Yost said. “Wish we didn’t have to do that but we’ve got to do what’s right for the organization today and moving forward”. “We’re in a new month, and let’s just go out and play good baseball”. “He believes in this group”. The Royals made no moves at the trade deadline, having made one roster move Sunday, putting RHP Wade Davis on the disabled list with a flexor strain and recalling LHP Matt Strahm from Double-A Northwest Arkansas. Anthony Rizzo reached base five times and Addison Russell had a two-run single in the first off wild Marlins starter Adam Conley (7-6). He has lost five straight decisions. With Moore gone to San Francisco, RHP Matt Andriese will return to the starting rotation, beginning with Tuesday’sgame against the Royals.
