However, because the two new hires were brought in above salary schedule, the Step 9 hire began with a yearly salary of $71,610, while the Step 15 hire started with $85,442 during their first year in the district. “They are hard-to-fill positions, and that was a big part of it”.

“Improving education not only requires restrictions on students, but also requires allowing teachers to have proper standards of living and getting rid of corruption in schools”, she said.

Add to that the operating costs involved in opening three new schools – Engineering and Science University Magnet School (which is opening Tuesday), New Haven Academy and the Dr. Reginald Mayo Early Learning Center.
The resolution states that if the legislation is passed, “Revenue from increased personal income and sales taxes will leave local communities and be placed into an education funding account for the Commonwealth to determine how it will be distributed, thereby removing the ability of local boards to be responsive and accountable to their community”.
