Duncan discount: One year, $5 million with Spurs

Ginobili previously said that he would announce his retirement decision in the Argentine newspaper La Nacion, but no such article now appears on the publication’s web site. He is coming off of a season in which he averaged 10.5 points in 70 games while battling several injuries.

The Spurs have committed all their available salary-cap space to Aldridge and Danny Green, which means there’s limited flexibility for free agents like Tim Duncan and Ginobili.

And the Spurs also appear to be adding David West of the Indianan Pacers.

West pretty much just paid $11 million of his own dime to become part of this team. The deal can not officially be announced until the signing period resumes Thursday.

When West opted out of his contract with the Indiana Pacers, the National Basteball Association veteran did mention two teams on his mind – the Golden State Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs. Throw in West, who proved he could still be a productive big with Indiana, and the Spurs just got a whole lot scarier. His average post-season is slightly better, 15.2.

The South American standout helped the Spurs win National Basteball Association titles in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2014, when San Antonio defeated a LeBron James-led Miami Heat side in the final. They’ve also won championships during that time (5), with the last trophy being brought home to San Antonio in 2013-14. Plus, the Spurs were rumored to be interested in the top free agent on the market, power forward LaMarcus Aldridge. Aldridge has worn No. 12 throughout his entire nine-year National Basteball Association career. He declared that if the recently concluded season won’t be the last, next season will definitely be.

The Spurs agreed to terms with Aldridge on a four-year, $80 million deal, Leonard for five years and $90 million, and Green for four years and $45 million in a frenetic opening to free agency. For years they’ve gotten their big three of Duncan, Ginobili, and Tony Parker to take paycuts to stay together.

“Knowing that they were so sure about keeping me in the team was definitely a crucial factor”. Details of the deal were not available.
