Dunga booted out by Brazil

Philippe Coutinho and his Brazil side were controversially dumped out of the Copa America following a 1-0 loss against Peru, with Raul Ruidiaz scoring the only goal of the game with his hand.

Peru’s Ruidiaz scored with 16 minutes remaining – however the goal should have never stood because he used his hand to turn the ball into the back of the net.

But referee Andres Cunha, after a discussion with the linesman, waved away protests by Brazilian players.

Coutinho and his compatriots were left speechless as they fell 1-0 to Peru in the penultimate game of Group B of Copa America, leaving them just one point shy of advancing to the quarterfinals.

The Brazil Football Confederation (CBF) confirmed on Tuesday that the 52-year-old had been relieved of his duties after less than two years in the job.

This year’s Copa America is being played across ten cities in the USA, the first time the tournament has been held outside of South America. Cunha seemed to be waiting for the fourth official’s opinion, despite the fact that video replays are not allowed in football.

Following Dunga’s sack, Corinthians manager Tite is being favoured to be Brazil next coach.

The former Internacional, Fiorentina and Stuttgart midfielder was given the task of reviving Brazilian soccer after their humiliating 7-1 defeat by Germany in the semi-finals of the tournament they hosted two years ago.

“I am only afraid of death”, Dunga told reporters.

Ecuador faces Haiti Sunday in the Copa America tournament, with the South American country eager to end a long-running streak of early exits at the regional soccer tournament. Valencia then tapped a layoff to Jaime Ayovi to roll the ball past goalkeeper Johny Palcide about nine minutes later.
