Dunkin’ Donuts Unveils Holiday Cup Designs Amid Starbucks Backlash
There are people who apparently have strong feelings about the designs on their seasonal coffee cups. The cups, which in previous years were decorated with Christmas-themed images, now feature a simple red design.

While Dunkin’ Donuts’ new cup doesn’t explicitly wish customers a “Merry Christmas”, it does include what appear to be boughs of holly or pine tree branches.
The Starbucks version has sparked criticism from conservative groups and a viral campaign by social media personality Joshua Feuerstein, who claim it’s another example of Christmas being removed from the public eye. Take this guy for example. However, social media users wonder if it was a deliberate attack on Starbucks plain red cup, reported USA Today.
Donald Trump has been a strong advocate for wanting to see the phrase “Merry Christmas” returned more prominently to the season among retailers and the population in general. Even Presidential hopeful Donald Trump has called for a Starbucks boycott. Of course, I’m Jewish and Starbucks never has put a menorah on their holiday coffee cups. Maybe let the competition test the waters with its own designs before you release yours.
The Christmas coffee cup controversy continues to brew. Now, the famous cups resembled any ordinary red cup, only that it bears the green logo of Starbucks – nothing more, nothing less. Trump told a crowd in Springfield, Illinois, on Monday. “I don’t think so”, Trump told Fox News show “Fox & Friends” early Thursday.
“So when I went in and asked for my coffee and they asked for my name and told I told them my name is “Merry Christmas”.
When the cups rolled out in late October, Starbucks vice president Jeffrey Fields said the company “wanted to usher in the holidays with a purity of design that welcomes all of our stories”.
