Durability tests: Samsung phones survive water, not falls
Device protection plan provider SquareTrade puts all of the new smartphones to the test with their breakability tests, dropping, dunking, bending and tumbling them to determine just how much pain they can take before they go to the great smartphone graveyard in the sky.

SquareTrade’s tests also show that Samsung is still suffering from Bendgate Syndrome. That too fails to break the handset, highlighting the fact that it’s IP68 certified dust and water resistant.
Verizon joined AT&T in offering an LTE-equipped version of Samsung’s 18.4-inch Galaxy View tablet, whose large screen and built-in carry handle and stand are targeted to people who consume a large portion of their media on a mobile device.
The iPhone 6s is a tumble master. No. While the S7 and S7 Edge both survived 30 minutes under water, it turns out that their audio was permanently muffled and distorted. The S7 edge cracked with 110 pounds of pressure and catastrophically failed at 170 pounds. One of these involved placing each phone in an enclosed chamber spinning around at 50 revolutions per minute for 30 seconds. Samsung promoted it with the slogan “Designed for humans, inspired by nature”, and the S III landed many a laurels for the best smartphone of 2012.
Samsung has published a round-up of Galaxy S7 launches around the world showing photos of lines and the first Galaxy S7 customers.

In a series of tests, SquareTrade found that the Apple (AAPL – Get Report) iPhone 6s is still sturdier when it comes to surviving drops (SquareTrade previously found that the 6s was less breakable than the Galaxy Note5 when the 6s was first released). The S7 and S7 Edge both suffered significant damage to their back panels, while their front screens had minor cracks. We wouldn’t advise putting the bend resistance to the test!
