Rauner said he’s focused on IL and defeating Democrats, and accused the opposition party of running a “corrupt machine” he said is responsible for the state’s money woes and even Chicago’s violence.

Illinois Democrats had no trouble voicing the name of the Republican presidential nominee during Democrat Day at the State Fair Thursday, deriding their GOP brethren for failing to mention Donald Trump at a rally a day earlier and tying the contentious real estate developer to Gov. Bruce Rauner. Rauner said Democrats have far outspent the GOP in recent elections, but “we’re going to do better than they do”.
He did not name the Chicago Democratic leaders – House Speaker Michael Madigan and Senate President John Cullerton – although the party passed out term-limit buttons with an image of Madigan from his first term in the House in 1971.
On Thursday, Madigan said Rauner’s approval of a temporary budget to keep government running through the end of the year was an admission by the governor that he “failed”.

“Number one, we can come together in opposition of the extremism of Donald Trump”, said Madigan, who doubles as state Democratic chairman. The governor, who has declined to discuss presidential politics, has said he’s “disgusted” by some of Trump’s remarks. Republicans had their celebration a day before, where Trump’s name was barely mentioned and Rauner again refused to say if he would support Trump. Duckworth seemed to target Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump when she said she didn’t inherit millions but she did inherit “a sense of duty to my nation, respect for hard work and a never-give-up attitude”.
Mendoza spent eleven years in Madigan’s House of Representatives and two terms as clerk “supporting unbalanced budgets, tax increases and pension holidays”, Munger campaign manager Phil Rodriguez said.
“That machine has taken over the city of Chicago”.
Meanwhile, Illinois US Senator Dick Durbin today latched onto that while speaking before a crowd of Democrats in Springfield.

Rauner promised the GOP would outspend Democrats this fall to pick up seats in the House, where Democrats outnumber Republicans, 71-47, and the Senate, where the spread is 39-20.
