Durex conducted a study to see just how valuable a safe-sex or condom emoji could be, and the company discovered that 80 percent of 16-to-25-year-olds across Europe find it “easier to express themselves using emoji”.

Durex aims to change this with the announcement of their condom emoji that’s created to get texters talking about safe sex.

The survey found about a third of respondents said they do not care about safe sex, but about half said they don’t expect HIV to affect them or anyone they know.

There may not be emojis depicting sex, but there are quite a few that can be put together to insinuate it. To keep the idea of safe sex in people’s minds, Durex has unveiled a condom emoji.

Durex is calling on people to use and share the hashtag #CondomEmoji in support of safe sex.

A condom emoji could make the safe-sex conversation a bit smoother-84 percent of 16-to-25-year-olds said they feel more comfortable talking about sex using the tiny graphics.

There’s no shortage of emoji that insinuate sex.

“It’s going to happen more, because with the dawning of PrEP people realise they can prevent HIV but the other diseases aren’t stopped”, he said.

“Durex believes in happier, healthier sex lives and World AIDS Day is a hugely significant reminder about the importance of safe sex”.

“While participants [of Durex’s survey] generally felt able to discuss safe sex within their romantic relationships, there was more uncertainty with new or potential partners”, he remarked.

If approved, the condom would mark the first sexually explicit emoji.
