Durham University is rising up the rankings

A university spokesman said: “These rankings, like all the others, reflect the fact that the University of Cambridge is among a small group of the most respected and influential higher education institutions in the world”.

Hebrew University was Israel’s most-featured top 100 university, ranking three times in the 51-100 section for agriculture and forestry, history, and anthropology.

Last year’s QS World University Rankings placed Durham 54 in the world for citations and influence of its research among other academics. He added, “President Pranab Mukherjee, in the capacity of Visitor to central universities, has encouraged the institutions to proactively engage with ranking agencies and provide the required data for global benchmar king initiatives”.

Universities New Zealand executive director Chris Whelan says the results are outstanding.

The University of British Columbia (UBC) ranks fifth in the world for geography and ninth for education.

Egypt ranked 11 times, and once in the top 100. It was sixth for materials science and eighth for electrical and electronic engineering. “We are very proud of the achievements of our Archaeology programme and of its dedicated staff and excellent students”.

In the capital city, Victoria University of Wellington is ranked in the top 50 for Social Policy and Administration.

The average employer reputation score of South Africa’s universities also increases by almost two percentage points, while the average academic reputation score increases by a fraction of a percentage point.

Despite the UK’s success, once again it is the big United States universities that dominate the field, with Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) each taking the top position in 12 subjects each. The University of Auckland is New Zealand’s best-performing university, featuring in the top 50 in 15 subjects.

The head of the QS Intelligence Unit, Mr Ben Sowter, said: “Singapore has established itself as one of the world’s leading education and research hubs and continues to shine in our global analysis”. The rankings were released today, March 22, 2016.
