During funeral for Baton Rouge officer, a call for healing

During Gerald’s funeral service, his closest friends and fellow officers repeatedly described the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps veteran as a patriot.

Funeral services are being held Saturday for Garafola in Baton Rouge.

“We send those officers not only for the department to represent and show their department that we support them”, said Lafayette Police Department’s Public Information Officer Paul Mouton, “But to show the family and the children of those fallen officers that hey you have family across the nation and we’re here to support you”. The day after that, a black gunman in Dallas opened fire during a protest against the Minnesota and Baton Rouge shootings, and killed five police officers.

Matthew Gerald’s funeral took place at Healing Place Church on Highland Road in Baton Rouge where around 3 thousand people gathered to honor his early departure, including law enforcement officers from New York, California, and other states.

“I wish you could see it from where I stand”.

Gerald was killed Sunday morning, along with the other officers, when a lone gunman ambushed them as they responded to a call. The lies told by the police are slowly becoming more and more outlandish and their actions are getting worrisome; for example, some footages shot by their body cams may be missing like it happened in the famous Kinsey’s case. The two officers, white and black, began riding together on July 1, days before Sterling’s death. The initial arrest was just an act of intimidation by the police, an act they use too often to get their way, as there was no reasonable cause for his arrest.

Mitchell said they were writing reports at police headquarters Sunday when Gerald said he was going for an energy drink at the B-Quick store less than a mile away. Gerald radioed for help, and Mitchell was among the officers who raced to the scene, hearing gunfire as they arrived.

The many mourners Friday included Sheriff’s Capt. Tom Cox from Knox County, Tennessee.

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards and Louisiana Congressman Garret Graves both were in attendance and delivered eulogies to the fallen officer.

“It’s numbing, with this many in such a short period of time”, Cox said.
