We are already starting on a high note, and even Duterte critic, Senator Sonny Trillanes said, “let’s not be a party pooper”.

Rodrigo Duterte has swept to victory in The Philippines presidential election after his main rival admitted defeat.

In a news conference, spokesman Peter Lavina said Mr Duterte would press for a shift from a unitary to a federal parliamentary form of government, which would lead to the formation of semi-autonomous regions that would have more authority over their budgets.

“It’s with humility, extreme humility that I accept the mandate of the people”.

Philippine presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte has bared some possible members of his Cabinet, including secretaries from the previous administrations and a former military general. “I thought, the mayor should have been first”, Duterte said.

The 71-year-old firebrand stormed to victory in Monday’s election, securing an insurmountable lead of almost six million votes over his nearest rival.

In interviews late on Monday, Mr Duterte also said he would push through a central plank of his platform – ending crime across the nation within six months and eliminating corruption.

In his three decades of serving Davao City and its people, the Philippines’ The Punisher has implemented laws that are deemed necessary to protect his constituents: a 10 p.m. curfew for minors who are not accompanied by adults, liquor ban which prohibits sale and consumption of alcohol after 1 a.m., complete smoking ban in public places, and 9 p.m. curfew on loud music and karaoke.

Duterte also recently made a much-condemned comment about the 1989 rape and murder of an Australian missionary. Duterte also bragged about having two mistresses and his life as a womaniser on the campaign trail.

Using his rival’s nickname, he said: “Digong, I wish you success”.

“I saw her face and I thought, ‘Son of a [expletive]”.

By Tuesday, the ballot count showed Duterte with 39 percent of the vote, more than 6 million votes ahead of the second-placed candidate.

He said Tuesday it would be up to them to fix relations with him, while also indicating he was prepared to hold direct talks with China over a highly sensitive territorial dispute in the South China Sea.

However, his most recent statement to initiate multilateral talks reflects a contradicting position on the matter.

However, Ramos said the people he’s spoken with in the Philippines don’t see Duterte that way.
