Duterte threatens to pull Philippines out of UN

Duterte even said that he might as well form a rival organization with China and other African (nations).

Callamard warned Duterte that his fight against the illicit drug trade did not absolve him from the Philippines’ worldwide legal obligations and would not shield him from any liabilities for illegal killings.

But in a statement yesterday, presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said the Philippines “has not extended any invitation to anybody, nor the United Nations, to look into its national affairs”.

Mr Duterte has encouraged not just the police, but the public, to murder suspected drug traffickers.

A total of 712 were killed in ongoing police operations while 1,067 died in “vigilante-type” killings, Xinhua news agency quoted police as saying.

Duterte described the U.N.as inutile, and lashed out at USA police killings of black men.

Duterte also accused the United Nations of doing nothing for the Philippines-ignoring its poverty reduction programs and enormous help following typhoons and other natural disasters.

Philippines then translated his subsequent comments from Tagalog into English: “Take us out of your organization”.

Making no mention of the mentioning the worldwide body’s poverty reduction programs and natural disaster relief efforts following typhoons that hit the archipelago nation, Duterte said the president said the UN had done nothing for the Philippines.

“We do not discredit media reports but these rapporteurs are mandated to make proper inquiries and there are protocols to conduct such probes”, Yasay said.

Mr Yasay said Mr Duterte has promised to uphold human rights in the fight against drugs and has ordered the police to investigate and prosecute offenders.

“You now, UN, if you can say one bad thing about me, I can give you ten (about you)”, he said, before mentioning the organisation’s “failure” to curb hunger and terrorism.

“Kung ganon kayo kabastos, umalis na kami diyan sa inyo [If you are that insulting, we should just leave]”, he said.

“I do not want to insult you”. Duterte frequently peppers his public comments with swear words-he has also called Pope Francis and the U.S. ambassador to Manila sons of whores-and days after his election win used typical language to criticize the UN.

United Nations has urged Manila to stop the extra-judicial executions and killings that have escalated since Rodrigo Duterte won the presidency. “If you are there because of a presidential appointment, I will declare all your positions, all throughout the country, vacant”.

“The President therefore finds the pronouncements from certain bodies as unwelcome meddling in national matters”, Abella further said.
