The director of the Kiev Olympic Stadium has suggested black fans should sit in separate areas of the ground to avoid racism.

The claim of segregation subsequently emerged in the Washington Post which reported that the director of the Olimpiyskiy stadium, Volodimir Spilchenko, was “willing to consider” the idea after it was floated in an interview.

When a journalist proposed the idea of a separate section for black fans Spilchenko answered: ‘We’ll probably listen to your offer’.

Dynamo have previously had to close part of their stadium after their fans were found to racially abuse Everton players during a Europa League clash. The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) launched an investigation into the incident, but it hasn’t reached a decision yet.

A group of around 30 supporters were ambushed in the Ukrainian capital just moments after they had left the Shato Brewery bar just off Kiev’s Independence Square.

Not everyone seems to agree that Ukrainian soccer has a racism problem, though: Ohor Kochetov, vice president of the Ukrainian Football Federation, suggested that the black men who were attacked might have provoked incident.

“[Black fans] in the sector that is always occupied by the “Rodychi” ultras is highly surprising to everyone”. On Thursday, Uefa opened disciplinary hearings into the matter after video of the attack, which can be seen in the above report, was passed on by the anti-discrimination network FARE to Uefa.

‘People of that category (black people) have never been there.
