In this 2-year study which involved 135 smokers, those in the test group smoked 5 levels of progressively lower nicotine content cigarettes over the course of 12 months, with the lowest nicotine-content cigarette being smoked for a duration of 7 months.
Everyone interviewed in this particular research study was also thereafter followed for another 12 months of the year, after going back their unique smoking or leaving altogether.
Electronic cigarettes or “e-cigs” have been touted as a tool smokers can use to wean themselves off of traditional cigarettes, which many believe are more harmful than their “e” counterparts.
Although e-cigs don’t burn tobacco, they heat and vaporise a liquid that contains nicotine, flavorings and other substances.

In a new study appearing in the American Chemical Society journal Chemical Research in Toxicology, researchers set out to determine the predominant type of nicotine found in commercial samples of the liquids used with e-cigarettes. Dr. Neal Benowitz told the site that most of the e-cigarette users really have no idea how to quit their dependence on nicotine and that at present, health experts are still trying to find out what other health hazards e-cigarettes can bring to the smokers’ bodies. It’s therefore considered the most addictive form of nicotine and is the same form included in traditional cigarettes. They found that by and large, the nicotine was in the most addictive form. But not all nicotine is created equal, and studies had yet to investigate what kind of nicotine was in the liquids.
