PlayStation also unveiled several big new titles, including a new version of its popular action series God of War and an action game featuring Spider-Man.

By contrast, owners of Oculus Rift must have a high-end graphics PC to play games and videos on the $599 VR headset.

The device is due launch in late 2017, will have 6 teraflops of GPU, support true 4K gaming and high fidelity virtual reality in what Microsoft described as “the most powerful console ever created”.

This year’s E3 is no different as Sony officially announced that the highly anticipated virtual reality headset PlayStation VR will hit the market on October 13 and will have a price tag of $399.

Sony is expected to release PlayStation Neo much sooner than Project Scorpio, however, with a release potentially coming as early as this October. Tons of games will be available for it such as Batman: Arkham VR, Final Fantasy 15 and more. Sony said more than 50 games will be available for PlayStation VR by the end of the year.

The cautionary words came from Sony Interactive Entertainment president, Andrew House, who, in an interview with CNBC, said the company expects PSVR headsets to be “supply constrained”.

Sony is really looking to take a strong hold on the virtual reality market.

Before the E3 2016 event began, Sony confirmed that they have a new PS4 console under development.

The PlayStation exec also spoke longer length VR games such as the upcoming “Farpoint”.
