Fourth of July is synonymous with many things: barbecues, beaches, fireworks, and for Coney Island, hot dogs.

As 1010 WINS’ Al Jones reported, they come from around the world and with somewhat odd credentials. According to online sports book Bovada.lv, the over/under has been set at 65.5 for the number of hot dogs that Chestnut will eat in Coney Island this Friday. Though Kobi will not take part in tomorrow’s contest, he and Chestnut are in the midst of negotiating a one-on-one battle, to possibly be held later this year or perhaps in 2016, with the help of Nathan’s.
Previous year Joey Chestnut added a romantic touch to the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest by proposing to his girlfriend just before winning his eighth consecutive title.
Is Joey Chestnut’s face “The Thrill of Victory” or “The Agony of DaMeat”? Hes naturally the hot favorite but 22-year-old Matt Stonie is on a mission to steal the mustard belt from Chestnuts surprisingly trim girth.

On Friday during the weigh-in, Stonie hit a mere 125 lbs. The win at Lincoln was secured by 21 hot dogs eaten by Steve, 6 short of his personal best of 27, and 4 hot dogs for Angie. He finished third place at the Hooters chicken wings qualifier event this past weekend in Long Beach, downing 124 wings, and earning a trip to Hooters Worldwide Wing Eating Championship in Clearwater, FL next month.
