Eagles agree to 2-year deal with QB Bradford

The Philadelphia Eagles announced that Bradford has agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension. A source tells ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, it is a two-year $36-million deal, including $26-million guaranteed. The Eagles did not have one this past season with Bradford playing in the fast-break offensive system of former coach Chip Kelly.

However, new coach Doug Pederson referred to Bradford as a “perfect fit” for the offense he plans to install.

The 28-year-old Bradford was acquired by the Eagles in a 2015 offseason trade with the St. Louis Rams. The completions and his career-high 65.03 completion percentage are single-season club records.

Bradford was the first pick in the 2010 draft after winning a Heisman Trophy and throwing for 8,403 yards and 88 touchdowns with Oklahoma. But knee injuries curtailed his progress.

Bradford struggled through the first seven games after missing nearly the previous two seasons.

According to FoxSports’ Mike Garafolo, the Eagles upped their offer during meetings with Bradford’s agent last week, a natural progression in negotiations.

Did the Eagles get the Sam Bradford deal right?

However, it also shows that the Eagles were willing enough to invest $18 million per season in 2016 and 2017, and will not be undergoing a drastic re-build.

The Eagles on Tuesday found their quarterback. He also has 78 touchdowns against 52 interceptions with a total passing yard of 14, 790.

Either way it is odd to me that any team would give Bradford this much money and another chance to lead their team. They were projected to have a new starting quarterback as well.

Bradford will more than likely be the starter on the opening weekend of the 2016/17 season and with good reason, having had a decent season.
