Eagles claim Stephen Morris on waivers to fill No. 3 QB spot

The Eagles were determined to start the season with a mobile quarterback from the state of Florida on their roster.

Despite having a successful National Football League preseason, the Eagles released Tim Tebow on Saturday (September 5) emptying out the roster slot that Morris will now occupy.

Stephen Morris was claimed off waivers after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars Saturday. Barkley served as tough competition for Tebow in the jostling for that third-string quarterback spot behind Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez.

The Eagles straightaway placed Morris upon the 53-man own impressive list, importance the person will be driving on the sidelines one another in Week a singular.

Morris was ranked 17th out of 103 quarterbacks in the 2014 draft by NFL Draft Scout, which noted his 1-6 record against ranked teams.

But the CBSSports report also points to the possibility of Eagles coach Chip Kelly surveying the roster and deciding to ultimately go with just two quarterbacks and add an extra defensive player instead. But as time went on, Barkley simply flamed out and Tebow didn’t flame enough to earn anything.

Morris wasn’t the only former Jaguars player to be claimed off waivers.

After leading his team to a win in pre-season against the Redskins, the undrafted rookie free agent from last season was waived by the team, allowing him to be picked up by the Eagles.

Morris played at the University of Miami, finishing his career with 7,896 yards with 49 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.

Meanwhile, Tebow responded with gratitude to the Eagles and coach Kelly through his Twitter account. The Eagles desperately needed a young quarterback in the pipeline with developable potential, someone who could eventually develop into a quality backup.
