Eagles expect Carson Wentz to be inactive on game day

The Eagles and Pederson taking that route has surprised many.

Over the years, teams have been known to throw their high-draft pick rookie quarterbacks in the mix right away, but it appears Pederson is leaning towards having Wentz learn from the sidelines in his first season. It remained a hot topic throughout the offseason program, and considering the investment the Eagles made in Wentz, it will likely continue as there’s more exposure to Wentz’s development and how Bradford performs. At the same time, they would also love to keep Wentz away from NFL defenses for a year, given that he played at the Football Championship Subdivision level at North Dakota State and presumably faces a sizable learning curve. It is his job, and it likely will be for years to come, or at least until Pederson is gone.

As Pederson said, few teams carry three active quarterbacks on game day.

Some will say that feeling is delusional, considering the holes on defense, the age of the offensive line and the fact that Bradford has never led a team to the playoffs.

The Philadelphia Eagles have always indicated that they’re going to develop Carson Wentz slowly, but his road to the top of the depth chart may even take longer than originally thought. Wentz was reportedly impressive during OTAs and minicamp, but he was only a starter for two seasons at the FCS power.

To the Eagles, that is all that matters right now.

Philadelphia has already announced that Bradford will be the starter going into the season.

Meanwhile, Wentz possesses the kind of size and athletic ability that gets fan bases excited – and impatient.
