Eagles’ new starting QB: rookie Carson Wentz

But a season-ending injury to Vikings starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater last week led to a number of phone calls between the two teams. In return, the Eagles made the recently announced 2017 National Football League draft on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway far more interesting for the locals.

In another view it is possible that in a run first offense with arguably the best half back in the NFL, Sam Bradford could become the elite quarterback he was supposed to be.

And it’s a huge trade for both the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings.

It seems that the Sam Bradford era is finally coming to an end with the Eagles.

Bradford was sent to the Vikings on Saturday for a pair of draft picks, including a first-rounder in 2017. Spielman touted the extra selections the Vikings have in the third and fourth rounds in 2017, an opportunity to move back into the first round if a particular player inspired them to do so.

With Bradford gone and the 53-man roster set (for now), the Eagles have just Chase Daniel and Wentz as their quarterbacks (see roster breakdown).

Of those five quarterbacks, absolutely none of them made the playoffs in their debut season with their new team.

The Vikings will trust Bradford instead of veteran Shaun Hill as soon as Bradford have assimilated, another time, a new offensive strategy. He was OC when St. Louis drafted me and was with me in Philadelphia past year. Philadelphia had re-signed Bradford to a two-year, $35 million contract in March, and according to ESPN’s Adam Caplan, had been happy enough with Bradford’s preseason to initially rebuff offers from Minnesota, which needed a quarterback in light of the loss of Teddy Bridgewater.

But that plan changed Saturday when, just eight days before their season-opener against the Cleveland Browns, the Eagles traded Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings.

2, Philadelphia Eagles rookie Carson Wentz was expected to sit out for the bulk of the season.

Philadelphia traded up from the 13th overall pick to the 8th with Miami, followed by a blockbuster move with the Cleveland Browns to snag the second overall pick. The Eagles were 7-9 last season and would’ve been in rebuilding mode in a division other than the weak NFC East.

Roseman said the staff met with Eagles doctors and trainers before the trade and that they were confident in Wentz’s prognosis.

“We have so much going on right now”, Roseman said.

After watching Wentz get slammed to the ground in the team’s first preseason game, protecting the future of the franchise will be of the utmost importance to Philadelphia.
