Over 100 people were held hostage in the Bataclan after a performance by Eagles of Death Metal, reportedly by three unmasked attackers wearing flak jackets. A further 100 have been taken hostage. They said they are “still now trying to determine the safety and whereabouts of all our band and crew”.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution (http://on-ajc.com/1Qn8Y60 ), quoting the brother of the band’s drummer, reported Friday night that all band members escaped the concert hall unharmed.
After the fourth attack, the French president François Hollande said he would close the country’s borders and declare a state of emergency.
Paris is in lockdown after a wave of attacks across the city has left dozens dead.
“We hope and pray that all of our fans in Paris are safe”.
Despite the name, Eagles of Death Metal in fact is not a death metal band but has worked with music A-listers including Jack Black and Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters and Nirvana fame. Eagles of Death Metal are now on a European tour, with a few 20 more dates scheduled through December. Moments later, two suicide bombers attacked outside the Stade de France, just north of Paris, where France and Germany were playing in a soccer match. “Our thoughts are with all of the people involved in this tragic situation”, the band’s official Facebook page said.
U2 guitarist The Edge’s cousin has tweeted that the band is safe and were not harmed during the attacks. CNN reports the total death count in Paris is at least 43, with an estimated 15 of those deaths at Le Bataclan. Speaking on the police raid, a reporter on France24 said, “What we heard were several detonations, a few gunfire as well as a few explosions”.
