Eagles plan to interview Coughlin
The Eagles are now conducting their interview with former Giants head coach Tom Coughlin for their head coaching vacancy left behind by Chip Kelly.

Although Coughlin is no longer coaching the Giants, he wasn’t fired and the club still owns his rights, making it necessary for teams to seek permission for an interview. The Giants have reportedly granted the Eagles permission to speak with Coughlin, as he has one year remaining on his contract, and an interview is expected to happen on Monday.
The Philadelphia Eagles are searching for THE coach to bring home the Lombardi Trophy in the very, very near future. Yes, it would only probably be a one to two year marriage, but if he can win two Super Bowls in NY anything is possible. Could they be considering Coughlin and McAdoo as a head coach / offensive coordinator package deal, with Coughlin as a short term answer to stabilizing the franchise, with McAdoo potentially waiting in the wings once Coughlin is ready to retire? Regarding the decision to fire Kelly, Coughlin offered this reaction: “Quite frankly, I’m not surprised by anything in this business”, Coughlin said.
With one of the most popular coaching candidates off the market after Adam Gase accepted the Miami Dolphins job on Saturday, the Eagles’ search now includes the most accomplished coach on the market: Tom Coughlin. The coach had spoken to the team earlier in the morning and many were saddened by the thought he might not be back. Pederson has spent the last three seasons as the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator on head coach Andy Reid’s staff.
First of all, seeing the reaction of the players and former players when it was announced that Coughlin was stepping down was eye opening.
Before his 12 years coaching the Giants, Coughlin was the Jaguars’ head coach from 1995 to 2002.
Despite a lack of wins in his latter years, Coughlin still had great success during his time with the Giants. According to FOX 29’s Howard Eskin, the interview took place in Kansas City, with owner Jeffrey Lurie and the Eagles’ front office group traveling to meet with Pederson.
The Eagles also interviewed Coughlin’s former offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo.
Last week, Coughlin, 69, resigned as the coach after accumulating a 102-90 career with the team.

Coughlin, while developing a reputation as being a disciplinarian, made deep connections with many players on the Giants and his departure from the team was an emotional event for several players, including quarterback Eli Manning. They may have already watched just that coach walk out the door. Coughlin’s disciplined and demanding coaching style combined with a human side of his personality in recent years that endeared him to his players.
