Eagles rookie Carson Wentz sustains hairline fracture in ribs
The No. 2 overall pick out of North Dakota State was hurt in Thursday’s preseason opener against Tampa Bay.

Eagles coach Doug Pederson says he is preparing as if offensive tackle Lane Johnson could be suspended in the wake of reports he faces a 10-game ban for violating the National Football League policy on performance-enhancing drugs.
We’ll see how Wentz recovers this month. Pederson was gone before reporters were allowed into the Eagles’ locker room after Thursday’s preseason victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Carson completed 12 of his passes for 89 yards but no touchdowns and one interception. “We do not know an exact timetable for his return, but we hope to have him back before the end of preseason”.
“It was fun”, Wentz said. That leaves the preseason as Wentz’s only opportunity to get game experience-a preseason of which he could possibly now miss seventy-five percent.
After the game, Wentz said he felt like the wind was knocked out of him.
Offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland, a holdover from Chip Kelly’s coaching staff, moved left guard Allen Barbre out to Johnson’s right tackle spot at practice Saturday and replaced him at left guard with rookie third-round pick Isaac Seumalo. While it is subject to change, Pederson said he expects Wentz to be ready to play Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
There were also the requisite chants of “We Want Wentz” from the ever-patient Eagles fans, though they’re going to have to wait. “He’s fine. He’ll get treatment on it and he’ll be back out tomorrow”.

There was plenty to improve as a team, as backup quarterback Chase Daniel took four sacks, making it a little risky to put the guy they’ve mortgaged their future in there for long. “I’ve never been sure about playing since I’ve been here”. I haven’t done a lot of that in practice. Head coach Doug Pederson released the following statement on Wentz, who did not participate in team drills during Saturday’s training camp practice. Wentz was expected to play more in the September 1 preseason finale against the New York Jets.
