Eagles TE Zach Ertz Has Already Undergone Surgery
Instead, Kelly focused on the opportunity presented for several of the team’s tight ends who figured to be lower on the depth chart before the news about Ertz’s injury.

Ertz had been apparently coping with a nagging difficulty over the course of some practices earlier this week earlier than sitting…
Dr. William Meyers, who recently fixed the groin of Houston Texans running back Arian Foster, performed the surgery on Ertz in Philadelphia.
After practice the team did confirm that Ertz underwent surgery on the apparent core injury.
Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz had surgery Friday to fix a torn “core muscle”, the team announced.
“I think he’ll be back for Week 1 but right now he’s out”, Kelly said. He is expected to miss the rest of the preseason, but Chip Kelly says he expects him to be ready for the regular season.
“Sam will not play”, said Kelly. “He’ll get his first work against the Ravens when we get a chance to train with them for a couple days and he will play in the Ravens game”. In the long term, he’s going to be a lot better for it. We just wanted to get it out of the way.
For perspective, Eagles center Jason Kelce missed four games last season with a sports hernia injury.
As for Alonso, Kelly said the concussed inside linebacker is fine and that the team is in no hurry to get him back on the field.

“Kiko is fine”, Kelly said. He can run around, he can do all those other things, but I think when you deal with an injury like that you have to take your time. Behind Brent Celek, Ertz, and Trey Burton, those vying for that fourth spot are Eric Tomlinson, Andrew Gleichert, and Justin Tukes.
