Early ballots: Clinton sees strength in NC but lags in Iowa

Mahoning County has more than doubled the number of registered Republicans for this presidential election, with a large portion of voters using the absentee ballot option.

With just 50 days until the election, officials are urging people to register to vote and, for those who need to, get their absentee ballots in as soon as possible.

The pace is ahead of 2012, when a record 1.87 million absentee ballots were cast by mail or in-person through early voting, according to the OH secretary of state’s office. That year was the first-ever statewide mailing of absentee ballot applications.

When will the ballots be sent out? Ballots will begin to be sent out to military and overseas voters on Saturday, with the rest to be mailed beginning October 12.

Absentee ballot applications must be submitted by November 5, the weekend before the November 8 general election. That’s the Saturday before Election Day.

Absentee ballot applications must be received by boards of election no later than November 5.

But Iowa Democrats are requesting fewer ballots than they did when Obama ran in 2012. “We want to create a great experience for every voter that comes out to vote on election day”.

The high volume of requests does show there is a lot of interest in the election already and that 2016 could set a new mark for early and absentee voting, Eck said. They need to be postmarked by the day before the election and arrive at the board of election within ten days of Election Day.

If you have not mailed your ballot prior to election week, the Secretary of State’s Office recommends voters take their completed ballot to the post office and request it receive a postage cancellation marking, or return it personally to their county board of elections prior to the close of the polls at 7:30 p.m.
