Easier preparing for Barca than Hull, says Arsenal’s Wenger

Wenger, who has seen his side succumb to a 0-0 draw against Hull City in the fifth round at the Emirates, insists that the players will be inspired for the game and give their best performance, which may be enough to take them through to the quarter-finals for the first time in over six years.

Giroud also scored in both games against Bayern this season, and said Arsenal can play without any pressure as the underdogs against Barcelona.

“Tomorrow, everybody’s convinced that we need absolutely to be as a whole squad totally focused, to have a chance…”

Luis Enrique’s Barca side are unbeaten since October and in Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez, Spain’s top scorer this season, they boast the most formidable attacking trio in the world.

Arsene Wenger has demanded Arsenal learn the lessons of their past Champions League meltdowns when they host holders Barcelona in the last 16, first leg on Tuesday.

“It will be different from Bayern we just need to focus and be 100% together with good cohesion and we will put what we need in this game with a lot of commitment and determination”. The clubs have met each other seven times, with Arsenal winning once and losing four times, which was in 2011, the last time the teams met at the Emirates in the Champions League. And with so many attacking players at Barca it was a good choice to go. I am going to side with Arsenal here, Arsenal +1 is 6/5 and I have to say I have a soft spot for the Gunners in this position. No team is flawless, (though) they are not far from it, Barcelona, I must say.

“We will have the ball far less than normal, so we have to make more of it when we get chances”.

Arsenal have suffered from poor results in the opening leg of knockout Champions League ties in recent years, last season losing 3-1 at home to Monaco before being eliminated on away goals following a 2-0 victory in the principality.
