Eastern Kentucky University bans hoverboards from dorms

Safety concerns are the main reason college administrators are taking official stands against hoverboards. Like other prohibited items, if found, they will be confiscated, the university said in a statement.

N.C. State said, “This ban is necessary because of concerns with lithium-ion battery fires and injuries related to hoverboards”.

Western New England University has a 215-acre campus in Springfield’s Sixteen Acres neighborhood and serves 3,870 students, including 2,590 full-time undergraduate students.

Western New England, like many colleges and universities, starts its spring semester next week, and students start moving back into dorms this weekend.

Out of precaution for your safety and the wellbeing of all residential students, self-balancing scooters (also commonly known as hoverboards) will not be permitted in any residential facilities at the University of South Dakota.

“We do not have a policy right now, but we are weighing one”, said Suzanne Shaw, vice president of marking and communications at MSU. “So, we had to act quicker on those, because we don’t want them stored there and have a fire because of overcharging”.

Students are asked to not bring them to campus. Penn State Behrend does not have a formal policy concerning hoverboards. Always wear a proper helmet and padding while using this product. Other schools around the country have done the same.

The announcement is effective immediately and includes the use of hoverboards at residence halls, fraternity and sorority halls and across campus.

The ban also covers golf carts and Segways.

Don’t charge a hoverboard overnight or if you are not able to observe the board.

The electric scooters have come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks after reports that the batteries in some devices exploded or caught fire while recharging. Often, the product comes partially charged.
