Eastern Washington fires destroy homes, force evacuations

An update from the command post at the Yale Road Fire shows that so far at least 10 homes and numerous outbuildings have been lost.

The Spokane Complex Fire, composed of several blazes, progressed quickly on Sunday afternoon and continued to challenge firefighters who worked through the night. Authorities are referring to the wildfire as the “Hart Fire”.

The Spangle area fire had grown to more than 300 acres Sunday night, agencies reported.

Update 8 p.m.: Crews are combining their resources on the Wellesley Fire with the resources fighting the Yale Road Fire.

The second uncontrolled fire started Sunday afternoon near Spangle, Washington, which is south of Spokane.

All three fires erupted while the area is under a National Weather Service red flag warning, meaning that residents should expect gusty winds, high temperatures and low humidity.

The Hart Road fire is estimated at 1000 acres.

Level 3 evacuations were ordered for North of Palouse Highway, south of Cornwall and Valley Chapel, west of Hangman Creek, and east of Highway 27. Smoke from the fire could be seen for miles.

According to the Spokesman Review, multiple homes were damaged in the Beacon Hill blaze, and some residents used garden hoses in attempt to put out the fire.

KHQ’s Katie Chen reports level 3 evacuations are in place for for the area south of Bigelow and west of Thierman, Bigelow Gulch and Jensen, as well as Joseph Lane north and a west boundary road due north and south of Joseph Lane. 100 firefighters are on scene now. Structures have also been lost to that fire.

Lincoln County Fire
