Eccles, Herbert to play as pros at the 2015 Australian Masters

Former world No. 1 and major victor Adam Scott says that, at least right now, a holiday seems more appealing to him than the opportunity to represent his country at Rio next year when golf returns to the Olympics for the first time since 1994.

Scott also believes the Olympics would have benefitted from having a team event as well as the individual tournaments.

Scott said golf and the Olympics had missed a golden chance to promote the game and criticised the 60-player, 72-hole stroke play events for men and women.

“That’s just where I see it and the point I’m at in my life and the other priorities and the gap in the schedule there, a few time off looks quite good actually”. “There was no wind, and weighing everything up, there was no need to challenge it. It was pretty stress-free golf”. “A few kind of a team event, even a mixed team event with the guys and girls, would have been really interesting and something different”.

“I can’t get absorbed into thinking about wins…”

The 2015 Australian Masters is scheduled from November 19 to November 22 at the Huntingdale Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia.

Scott began weaning himself off the broomstick putter, which he won the 2013 U.S. Masters with, earlier this year but returned to its comforts at the bigger tournaments when the going got tough.

Scott said his commitment to finally banishing the broomstick had lightened his load at the end of a taxing year in which he struggled for consistency and tumbled out of the top 10. Australian amateur Ben Eccles, who won last week’s New South Wales Open title, turned pro Wednesday and is also competing at Huntingdale. The Australian Open, with defending champion Jordan Spieth and Scott in the field, is being played next week at The Australian in Sydney, followed by the Australian PGA at Royal Pines on the Gold Coast from December 3-6.
