Ed Woodward: ‘Manchester United spending to continue’

Louis van Gaal has already spent over £250million on new signings since taking the helm last summer – and that spending his unlikely to slow any time soon.

United’s signings have been hit and miss since Louis van Gaal took over at the club, with club record signing Angel di Maria offloaded at a substantial loss to Paris Saint-Germain just a season after he joined following his underwhelming performances.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has confirmed that Manchester United will continue splashing the cash to bolster their squad.

Although no direct quotes were given, a report in the Daily Mail claims that Woodward promised a fan forum that the club would continue to invest in top players as well as rewarding the young talent with opportunities in the first team.

And Woodward, who masterminded most of the transfers and negotiated with clubs and players on the Dutch coach’s behalf, believes that by the end of the window his club had been rumoured to hold an interest in more than 100 players.

United will look to turn their Premier League form around following a 3-0 demolition by Arsenal in the last gameweek, with a trip to Goodison Park to face Everton on Saturday.

Woodward insists that he was “delighted” with the return of Champions League football and reportedly revealed that United’s finances were looking healthier than ever.
