Eddie Hearn on Deontay Wilder’s worth in potential Anthony Joshua fight negotiations

“I think negotiations will start next week.”Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn – the son of Barry – wants the fight against Wilder to “happen in 2018″ because he is concerned about the IBF, WBA and WBO calling mandatory challengers”.

Wilder is said to be content with a 60-40 split on the fight purse and it’s looking like it will all go down in the summer.

Wilder took to Twitter to accept the challenge although he believed the decisions of the judges were wrong.

“We want to make it public that Deontay wants the fight, and we are prepared to come over, or meet here and get the deal done”. Expect Joshua to have a fight date in late 2018 with one of the mentioned opponents on his home turf in the UK.

Or not in the room, given Deontay Wilder’s increasingly infantile spat with Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn meant the hammer-fisted and motor-mouthed WBC champion passed up on the chance to watch from ringside at the Principality Stadium. It was the first time he had been taken the distance and, bar three patchy rounds halfway though the fight, Joshua was always in control.

“I know the bookies say I might get a knockout but forget the hype, Parker was a world champion”, Joshua said. “It was light work”, said Joshua after the bout. Joshua returns with a straight right, after which the referee comes between the fighters — admonishing both — after Parker chases Joshua around the ring, before the pair become entangled.

Team Parker obviously had a game plan which was to box to get in near and then rough up the brit in close quarters, but referee Giuseppe Quartarone had other plans.

That remains unlikely but it beggars belief that Wilder would potentially jeopardise a lucrative unification clash with the victor of Anthony Joshua vs. Joseph Parker by trying to impress an early morning radio team with his lack of compassion.

“I am not just going to give him (Wilder) everything he wants to get him here”.

The David Tua v Shane Cameron fight in 2009 holds the pay per view record in New Zealand of more than 80,000 buys. Can I get a little pat on the back now? “You know, would Joe like a redo, I’m sure he would”, he said.

While many would think Joshua’s reported $18 million dollar payday would be more than enough to the $7 million made by Parker to travel to the U.K, Wilder reportedly wants more than that in a final unification match up.

“I was beaten by the better man, ” said Parker. Many will question if he is big enough to worry the likes of Joshua.

But Joshua was never looked troubled during a bout that never really took off, and the Olympic gold medalist was declared the victor by decision after 12 rounds.
