Eddie Jones named new England coach

Jones was asked about his comments about captain Chris Robshaw, whom he criticised in a newspaper column before England’s group-stage defeat by Australia.

The Australian was headhunted by England, whose coach, Stuart Lancaster, resigned following their shock exit in the first round of the World cup.

“I believe the current laws are the right regulation to have”, said Jones. Personally, I think the RFU have taken a massive risk in appointing him, as there were other potential candidates, who to me fitted the job title better.

Lancaster stepped down last week by mutual consent in the wake of England’s poor showing at the World Cup.

“For me, it’s a great opportunity to coach these players”.

Cipriani was left out of Lancaster’s squad for the tournament, but Jones has revealed that the Sale fly-half will be considered should his performances warrant selection, despite his upcoming court case for a drink-driving charge. Played an advisory role in South Africa’s 2007 World Cup triumph.

He told his first press conference at the Stormers that he was “committed” to the Cape Town-based side.

“You can be a devil one day and an angel the next”, said Jones.

“I want players who want to play for England and to play for England you have to play in the Premiership, and the Premiership is a strong competition”.

“I need to look at the players and work out the way we are going to add the plus to our game”.

In the cases of Mike Catt and Graham Rowntree it seems barely worth their while attending with a new broom about to sweep ferociously.

But ex-number eight Owen, who worked under Jones during a previous spell in charge at Saracens, insists the Aussie will have the confidence to make a success out of his reign.

However, White said on Thursday: “I have a contract with Montpellier”.

“I did show some interest and was offered the job earlier in the year. I’ve never seen more grown men in tears”.

Jones might just have started his new job but he is already thinking about his eventual successor.

“Eddie is very thorough and always brings a lot of attention to detail”, said Moore, speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash between the Barbarians and Argentina at Twickenham.

“When Karne Hesketh crossed for the injury time try it was the most emotional I have been since coaching the Wallabies to a semi-final win over the All Blacks at the 2003 World Cup”. “You’ve got all the cash in the world-and all the players-and you’ve still got no idea how to play the game”.

“You’ve got to understand what you are good at and you’ve got to understand where you’ve got to improve”.

Jones said he was grateful to Western Force for allowing him to leave his contract.
