Vedder, with an acoustic guitar on his lap, and Beyonce then delivered a stunning rendition of Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song“, with the two singers trading verses and together sharing the chorus. Pearl Jam previously covered “Redemption Song“, but not since 1995.
The Eddie Vedder and Beyonce “Redemption Song” performance also included a background video of late South African leader Nelson Mandela giving a speech about humanity overcoming extreme poverty.
Although the “Halo” singer was a billed artist for the festival, she stunned the audience when she took to the stage during Eddie Vedder and company’s headlining set.

Beyonce also made a surprise drop-in at last year’s Global Citizen Fest, appearing in her husband Jay-Z’s set for “Holy Grail” and “Young Forever”. “Beyonce performed some of her biggest hits including “7/11″, Single Ladies”, and “Crazy In Love” live in Central Park.
