Edgar Davids: ‘Jose Mourinho is a short-term solution’

There have been several reports linking Ronaldo with a move back to Manchester United, but he quickly squashed those rumours – citing that he’s happy with his current situation with the Spanish club.

Mourinho shared a warm embrace with Charlton and, in reference to the United legend’s goals in England’s semi-final victory over Portugal in the 1966 World Cup jokingly told him: “You killed my country’s dream in 1966 but even so, all the best”.

In a statement on Friday, the executive vice-chairman of Manchester United, Ed Woodward, said there was no one better than Mourinho to guarantee success on the pitch.

Keane pointed out Mourinho’s CV and United’s loss of Champions League football to consider this a coup, saying “Working at Manchester United is all about winning and his CV will tell you he is a victor”.

“Of course he had a few run-ins with the media, and I think a few things could have been done differently”.

So it has finally been confirmed, the news none of us have been waiting for – José Mourinho is the new king of Old Trafford.

‘I know what he brings to English football’.

With the millstone of the failed tenures of David Moyes and Louis van Gaal shadowing him, Mourinho is already a man under pressure. “I think he’s a very good coach and I was pleased to see his team win something”, he said. “I spoke to him briefly when he left Chelsea”.

Keane is now with the Ireland camp as they prepare for their final global friendly against Belarus in Cork on Tuesday night (KO 7.45pm) with manager Martin O’Neill set to name his 23-man squad for the European Championships after the game at Turners Cross.

“He was very fearless and very good at doing that”.

“I think we can look at our club now in two perspectives”.

“He’s definitely got the personality and the charisma for it”.

Concerns have been raised over whether Mourinho’s style of play will be too negative for United supporters, but Lampard does not buy into that argument. His first order of business will be to overhaul the team’s roster and bring in new, top-class players.

Keane says it was an obvious choice but would be quicker to refer to Mourinho as “The Irritating One” opposed to “The Special One”.

Harry Blevins of the Portadown branch said: “The majority of the guys in our club are delighted with the appointment”.

When asked about United, Lampard responded: “I think it’s a possibility. In my opinion he will be at Old Trafford for eight to ten years”. There’s nowhere else to go after United only down.

Keane candid on'irritating Mourinho but says he has the credentials for Manchester United
