Edmonton’s Jen Kish leads Canada’s rugby sevens team at Rio Olympics

It might be a cliche, but the Australian men’s rugby sevens team is making no apologies for trotting out the line that the side is taking it one match at a time in Rio. A lot of people in the USA watch the Olympics and they will see the sevens and hopefully kids will say that’s the sport I want to play.

But we’re all pushing for the same goal. “The fitness levels are up where they should be and the knowledge of the game as well”.

Amor said the training camp was created to get the players in peak physical condition, with the Rio schedule requiring six 14-minute matches played over three days.

With Fiji having won the last two World Series titles, though, he is in the unusual position of overseeing a side who are not the pre-tournament favourites. “He was coming back from injury at the start of the GB programme, which put him behind a couple of others in that position, but finished the preparation tournaments strongly and is primed to provide additional cover”.

As hosts, Brazil have the automatic right to have men’s and women’s teams entered in the sevens competition at the Deodoro Stadium. “It’s a special type of character that excels”. “We want to show Fijian rugby, Fijian sevens, and therefore the island of Fiji, at its very best”.

Williams has also won the NRL and World Club Challenge from his two stints in rugby league and is unbeaten after seven relatively low-key boxing bouts. “You can’t come up against any team and be complacent”, said Wallaby Chloe Dalton. There’s always that mutual respect.in the village at all times with all athletes because they’ve worked tremendously hard to get here to represent their country.
