“The people of Edo State have made up their mind never to go back to the dark era”.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance candidate in the governorship election in Edo State, rescheduled to September 28, Osaro Onaiwu, has called for further shift of the exercise to October 1.

Onaiwu said moving it to next month would afford eligible voters among the students to participate in the election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had earlier on Thursday announced the postponement of the election fixed for Saturday to September 28, following insecurity alert by security agencies.

According to him, education is the number one pillar in APGA’s manifesto, and the authorities must be wary of threats from some of the students that they will sue INEC if they are‎ prevented from voting in the election.

Onaiwu commended Muslims in the state for living in harmony with their Christian brothers and sisters and asked the Muslim Umah in Edo State to consolidate on the prevailing peace they have maintained in the state over the years, even as the governorship election approaches. “The postponement was just a mere shift of the doomsday for the People’s Democratic Party and others”, Obaseki said.

He said that there “nothing wrong” in shifting the election further to October 1.

Obaseki said: “We were ready for the elections, but when the police belatedly raised the issue of security, there is nothing we could do”.

“They know me, they know the lineage of my family, they can trace me from four, five generations back; they know I don’t have a violent past; I have never been charged or tried for violent behavior”.
