Edward Snowden warns against using Google’s Allo messaging app

Leading cyber security advocate, Edward Snowden, has voiced strong criticism against Google Allo, the company’s recently launched chat application. Eva Galperin, global policy analyst at the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) told SCMagazine.com that the primary concern with the policy is that the approach creates a situation in which Google mixes secure and insecure modes in the Allo product. Within messages, users can also call their friends using the Assistant. Users can use Incognito Mode to avoid logging, but they have to actively delete the conversations in the app, which means Google will have access to full history by default.

Allo lets you to exchange words, images, stickers and the like in individual or group chats.

The app includes Google Assistant, an artificial intelligence programme which makes live suggestions as you chat. That’s why the newest entrant in the instant messaging space needs to defeat WhatsApp in order to become the king.

“I think what people are really up in arms about is the fact that these messages are stored, potentially forever, on Google servers which can be subpoenaed by law enforcement and used as evidence against the user”, Kleczynski wrote. Users can even filter their search by adding keywords like “best”, “affordable” and others to get specific results.

“We’re starting with a preview edition to show you just one way that your Assistant will work for you in chat”.

Apple’s Messages app has a variation on this. “Smart Reply will improve over time and adjust to your style”, Fulay said.

Google made Allo from scratch, not as a successor to the Hangouts. Research travel destinations, flights and hotels together with friends as the Assistant taps into all the great travel features on Google.

The Assistant is directly aimed to compete with other virtual assistants like Siri and Cortana.

Use Google Assistant – right within your conversation to find businesses or shops around you; pharmacies, ATMs or banks. Numerous features and specs (listed in the screenshot below) have already been pretty widely rumored anyway, including a Snapdragon 821 processor, 4Gb DDR4 RAM, and the new Pixel launcher. some other specs have been hinted at but not necessarily confirmed.
