Mr Ismail was among the most celebrated ministers in the former cabinet, especially after Italy’s Eni said last month that it had discovered the “largest ever” oil field in the Mediterranean Sea off Egypt’s coast.

It is left without a parliament and an interim cabinet following former Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb’s decision to resign his government on 12 September. A senior government official had told AFP the reshuffle, the first major shake-up since Sisi won elections past year, was meant to “pump new blood” into the government.

It has been reported that the former ministers of defense, finance, interior and investment have retained their posts in the new government. According to their speeches, reaching a pointed solution regarding those issues is one of Egypt’s concerns, as well as the EU’s. There could be more deaths, said Charles Barnba Kisanga, the information minister from Western Equatoria state. A new telecommunications minister, Yasser al-Kady, was sworn in on Saturday by Sisi as part of the new government.

Egypt is preparing for parliamentary elections, slated to take place in two phases between 17 October and 2 December. He added that the reason several ministries had been merged was due to the lack of candidates willing to accept posts.

The Vice President of the Cassation Court in Egypt, Nabil Sadeq was sworn-in Saturday as the country’s new Attorney General. The position became vacant following the assassination of Hisham Barakat in auto bomb attack in June. “I feel it is important to hear the views of our partners as we face this challenge together,” said Tusk after the meeting. There has also been growing discontent over a rise in food prices and slashes to a generous fuel subsidy system as Sisi pushes to narrow a budget deficit.
