Egypt TV news boss fired for airing wrong el-Sissi interview

Recently the USA’s PBS network aired a fresh interview with Egypt’s President Al-Sisi, made with host Charlie Rose to coincide with the president’s visit to NY for the United Nations General Assembly.

After his meeting, Trump released a statement saying that this encounter with El-Sisi “highlighted how Egypt and the United States share a common enemy and the importance of working together in defeating radical Islamic terrorism”.

“Make America great again, if that is what you feel like doing”. Trump’s statement included no such criticism.

Meanwhile in his meeting with Clinton, Al-Sisi discussed historic and strategic relations between Egypt and the U.S. and potential ways to collaborate in order to serve the interests of both nations, and maintain peace and security in the Middle East.

But it instead aired a year-old interview with the same network.

“It’s also important to know that during election campaigns many statements are made and many things are said”.

The blunder drew criticism from pro-Sisi private channels, which have devoted extensive coverage to the president’s visit to NY.

Burnett then asked if Sisi meant that Trump “is saying what he needs to say to be elected but that he might not follow through with the plan”. “I don’t want to be unfair to anyone”, he said.

“During election campaigns there is a perception based on a certain vision and a point of view”, he said, speaking through the aid of a translator.

“Do you think that he would make a strong leader?”
