EgyptAir to contract French, Italian companies for black boxes search

The disaster came nearly six months after a Russian passenger jet broke up in mid-air shortly after take-off from the resort of Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt’s Sinai peninsula, killing all 224 people on board. Egypt’s president has said terrorism was the cause of that crash.

The anonymous official is part of Egypt’s investigative team and has examined victims’ remains at a morgue in Cairo.

Flying at 37,000 feet high and before vanishing in the Mediterranean, the doomed flight, led by a professional pilot of over 6,000 hours of flying experience including more than 2,000 hours on the same model of Airbus A320, made “sudden swerves” that made jet drop to 15,000 feet according to the Greek defense minister. He added that at this stage of the investigation “all scenarios” of plane crash “are possible”.

In March, a man hijacked a domestic Cairo-bound EgyptAir flight and forced the pilot to divert the aircraft to Cyprus.

Some experts agree such as Peter Goelz, CNN Aviation Analyst, “It’s been described that none of the pieces of human remains were bigger than the size of a human hand”.

One un-named forensics official had concluded the size suggested there had been an explosion, although no trace of explosives has been detected.

Phil Giles, a former air safety investigator who worked on the Lockerbie Bombing case, told The Independent that images of wreckage published on Saturday added to mounting indications the plane broke up mid-air. A Sinai-based terrorist group loyal to the regional Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the plane crash.

Egyptian authorities are still investigating that incident.

Egypt’s public prosecutor has also asked France for documents, audio and visual records of the plane’s stopover at Charles de Gaulle airport and the period before it left French airspace.

The depth of the water in the area where the plane is believed to have crashed presents a challenge to search efforts.

“The plane was in service since 2003”. French authorities said smoke was detected aboard the jetliner during the flight. On the other hand, he said he can not say what caused the blast.

The signals did not indicate what may have caused smoke, and aviation experts have said that neither deliberate sabotage nor a technical fault could be ruled out.

As the world awaits a definitive answer on the cause of the EgyptAir crash, Greece is already weighing in. Investigations were on full force and the sources have claimed that the airplane did not show any technical problems before take-off.

The EgyptAir jet that disappeared last week did not show technical problems before taking off from Paris, sources within the Egyptian investigation committee said late on Tuesday.

“We will start sending the main data from tomorrow, including the radar tracking and the conversation with controllers”, one source who requested anonymity told Reuters on Tuesday.
