“The Revenant”, set in 1823 Montana and South Dakota, and was inspired by the experiences of frontiersman and fur trapper Hugh Glass, was in competition in the best motion picture – drama category with “Carol”, which was leading this year’s nomination pack for the Golden Globes.
The wins for Mozart, along with those for Mr. Robot (for both best drama series and for Christian Slater for best supporting actor), were in line with the Globes’ history of honoring first-year shows.
Ridley Scott was a sentimental choice to win Best Director at the Golden Globes, but the 78-year-old filmmaker had to settle for The Martian claiming Best Comedy.
With Leo scooping the award for Best Actor for his role in The Revenant, while Kate one Best Supporting Actress for her part as Steve Jobs’ wife in the eponymously named film, it was a top night all round.

After a 10-year ratings high three years ago, the Golden Globes’ viewership has dipped slightly since, with an audience of 19.3 million tuning in last year. An apparently gobsmacked Lady Gaga, winning best actress in a limited series or TV movie, didn’t get the message.
