Eid Al Adha on September 12, Zul Hijjah moon not sighted

The foundation came up with the decision after the National Moon Sighting Committee headed by the religious affairs minister reported that the moon of the Arabic month of Zilhajj was not seen anywhere in the country. It symbolizes the day Abraham agreed to sacrifice his only son on God’s instruction but, before the prophet could execute the divine order, God sent a ram at the last minute to replace the child as the offering.

As in Eid al-Fitr 2016, the UAE, Kuwait and Bangladesh are also likely to observe a nine-day public holiday over the same dates as Turkey.
