Various religious, social, business and political organizations had erected banners on roads and shops outside Hazratbal shrine, greeting people on the occasion while local traders decorated the markets and announced discount on various items.
A procession that passed through Yeshwantpur, Yelahanka and Nagawara culminated at Chhota Maidan in Shivajinagar, where a jalsa (religious gathering) was held. Special security arrangements had been made to maintain law and order in Sialkot.
“The true love of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) is manifested by following in his footsteps and supporting his Sunnah … that is how the love for the Prophet (PBUH) is expressed”.
City Traffic Police diverted all the traffic on alternative routes to facilitate the participants of the processions as per traffic plan announced by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO)/SSP Shoaib Khurram Janbaz.
Former union minister Suresh Pachouri flagged off procession of Milad-un-Nabi near Mangalwara police station.
It is pertinent to here that the Saudi Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh earlier this year warned against celebrating the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), saying that it is a superstitious practice that was illegally added to the religion. A rally of devotees took place in various parts of the Walled City in the afternoon. Different organizations have arranged poor feeding and blood donation camps are underway at several places.

Parade Media Spokesperson Ridwan Omar also took time to clarify on why they celebrated the birth of Muhammad on 24th December, a day before Christians also celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. It is believed that on this day, the 12th of Rabiul – Awal of the Hijri calendar, the Prophet was born with Divine blessings and message of peace for human kind.
