A Los Angeles-based store is selling the shirt Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was apparently wearing in a recent interview, where he was responding to questions from U.S. actor Sean Penn.

Kate del Castillo, a Mexican and American actress, brokered the controversial meeting between the fugitive Guzman, herself and Sean Penn, who wrote about it in a much-maligned Rolling Stone interviewed posted online Friday night.
Penn spent hours talking with Guzman, and Guzman bragged that he had supplied “more heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana than anybody else in the world”.
The newspaper said some of the messages were copied from an intercepted phone used by one of Guzman’s lawyers. He told ThinkProgress that elements of Penn’s dramatic account of meeting El Chapo didn’t add up. “Mr Guzman is a very serious man, very intelligent”, Badillo said.
When the news broke Saturday that Rolling Stone magazine had obtained an exclusive interview and photograph with Guzman, the Esteghbal brothers immediately noticed he was wearing two of their shirts.
Later messages between the two appear to have been retrieved from a Blackberry device that a lawyer bought for del Castillo on Guzman’s orders.

“Today I believe more in El Chapo Guzman than in the governments that hide the truth from me even though it is painful”, she wrote. “You’ll know my story when we have time to speak, but for some reason I feel safe and I know you know who I am, not as an actress or a public figure, but as a woman, as a person”.
El Chapo, meanwhile, is in little need of the fashion numbers. The series is slated to be called “Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzman: El varon de la droga”, which loosely translates as “The Drug Baron”.
An “essential” factor in Guzman’s eventual arrest was the drug lord’s meeting with Hollywood star Sean Penn in Guzman’s remote mountaintop hideout in the Mexican state of Durango in early October, Mexico’s attorney general Arely Gomez said on Monday.

Far more disturbing than Rolling Stone’s journalistic lapses were the nearly immediate reports that Penn was under criminal investigation by Mexican and USA law enforcement authorities for his interview.
Guzman was recaptured by Mexican authorities on Friday after escaping from federal prison in July. “I told her about you”, he texted del Castillo a few weeks later. Mexico says it wants to extradite Guzman to the United States, whose supermaximum security prisons are supposed to be escape-proof.

Del Castillo, was contacted by the farmer-turned-billionaire-drug lord in 2012 after she tweeted about her mistrust in the Mexican government and her anger with the administrations’ shortcomings in combating the country’s poverty.
