The Mexican actress has been the subject of speculation since joining the Oscar victor for a meeting with drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman for an interview that ran in Rolling Stone last week.
Guzman eventually met del Castillo face to face in an undisclosed jungle clearing in October, along with actor and director Sean Penn.
Before the decision to move him from cell to cell, another Mexican law enforcement source said Wednesday that Guzman was being monitored around the clock by heavily armed guards.
Guzman’s capture on Friday in his native Sinaloa state was huge news.
The federal official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he or she was not authorized to be quoted by name, said the dozens of texts were authentic. Guzman evaded authorities then, but was finally captured months later in Los Mochis.
Guzman and a top henchman stole a white Volkswagen Jetta at gunpoint as they emerged from a drainage tunnel after crawling a mile through an underground drain. In addition, the prison now has 24-hour video surveillance of all parts of Guzman’s cell, the AP reports.
Penn wrote about the encounter in a Rolling Stone article on Saturday, saying that Guzman wanted Del Castillo to help him make a biopic about himself. He said he’s waiting to get the “greenlight” from Penn who, he made a point of reminding reporters, “I’ve known a long time” having done a lot of interviews with the actor over the years.
“What’s being investigated is the actions”. Everyone wanted to tell his story, but he said he would only work with the Mexican actress, who the ex-official called “Mexico’s Sharon Stone“.
In them the pair discuss meeting over tequila and champagne, with Guzman promising to “take care of you more than my own eyes” while the Mexican-American actress expresses her “eagerness to see you eye-to-eye”.
“If during the dinner El Chapo gave them money, or jewels, or he gave them money for the movie or any other transaction, they could be charged with money laundering”, Barragan y Salvatierra said as reported by the Associated Press.
“The Chapo Guzman story has been one of the most captivating stories this past year and we are thrilled to bring an inside look into his world to our audiences”, said Alberto Ciurana, Univision’s programming chief. He was arrested after meeting with Hollywood star Sean Penn in his remote mountaintop hideout in the Mexican state of Durango in early October, Mexico’s attorney general Arely Gomez said Monday.

Guzman is now back at the Altiplano maximum-security prison some 90 kilometers west of Mexico City while authorities seek to extradite him to the United States.
