Elaine Benes Has No Time For Bernie Sanders’ Yada Yada On ‘SNL’

Saturday Night Live reunited Julia Louis-Dreyfus and her Curb Your Enthusiasm costar Larry David in the most unexpected of places on Saturday, April 16: at the 2016 Democratic presidential debates.

Then, Louis-Dreyfus gave us a look into her own feelings regarding playing Elaine when she asked Clinton, “Doesn’t it suck to be the only girl in a group of guys?” I put on my pants just like all of you. Given Louis-Dreyfus’ excellent showing, I feel a little bad only including her in one of the three best sketches this week, but Cecily Strong’s finally ideal channeling of this recurring character – now the star of Bagging Heather – was too hilarious to ignore. So it’s a particular delight when “Bernie” starts taking questions from the NY audience, only to have Louis-Dreyfus stand up in character as Elaine.

“Since I’ve gone back, I can tell you it’s much more of an equal-opportunity environment”, she said, emphasizing that, from her perspective, TV is a much more accepting place for female actors. This was also something of a Seinfeld reunion because it was Larry David who created and wrote the sitcom.

And in case you missed it, McKinnon killed it in the cold open as Hillary grappled with her recent string of primary losses and desire to appeal to young New Yorkers.

“82, wow, so you’re old enough to be my-“, but before the singer could say “mom”, Louis-Dreyfus cut him off and injected, “biggest fan!”

Elaine’s final question once again referred back to Louis-Dreyfus, and pulled in David, as well. Bryant told Louis-Dreyfus. She played a jewelry-obsessed Massapequa Long Island woman, a ’50s diva movie star who could not remember her lines, and a middle aged pool boy-obsessed housewife in a pretty amusing bit.
