Election advisory: Deadline to register to vote is one week away

Those who did not receive voter cards are still able to vote, and just need to go to their local polling station with appropriate identification.

If you don’t get a card, you can register online, by mail or in person at your local Elections Canada office.

Voters can use Elections Canada’s website (elections.ca/register) to check whether they are registered to vote, to update their address, or to register to vote. They can also vote on a provisional ballot.

Voters are classified as inactive if they have not voted, signed a petition or updated their voter registration in a period of six years, BOE Director Matthew Tlachac said.

To cast a ballot, voters must be registered at their current address.

You have until Tuesday, Oct, 27 to apply for an absentee ballot at the office of the voter registrar for your city or county. The list includes many authorized pieces to choose from, from library cards to personal cheques.

Good to hear that Elections Canada’s staff is forearmed for October 19 by the presentation of an “overview of contemporary voter suppression and surveillance practices”. The person who is attesting must show proof of identity and address and be registered in the same polling division (e.g. a neighbour).

Check ahead of time elections.ca the full list of authorized voter ID options and determine which ID you have or must source that meet the criteria.
